Rabbit FAQ

Toilet Training Two Rabbits
Question: I have two young rabbits living in one large hutch. They are from the same litter, and have always lived together. They are both unneutered males. In the hutch is a large litter tray that one of the rabbits uses. The other rabbit will not use the litter tray, and seems to use several other places around the hutch including the sleeping area. How can I get both rabbits to use the litter tray?
Answer: As both rabbits are males, and are both unneutered, it is most likely that this is a territorial issue. I would recommend that as soon as the rabbits are old enough, you should consider neutering them. This will reduce any territorial problems, and may solve the problem of sharing a litter tray.
You could also use two litter trays, as they may then use one each. For the rabbit that does not use a litter tray at the moment, place the second litter tray near the area that it uses, with some of its dirtied bedding and pellets in the litter tray so it gets the idea. If possible, you could block off part of the cage so that the rabbit is enclosed in a small area with its litter tray for a while. Put lots of hay at one end of the litter tray so it can sit and munch, and let nature take its course.
Should Rabbits Wear Collars?
Question: Can rabbits wear collars like cats? Can I take my rabbit for a walk with a collar and lead?
Answer: Rabbits should not wear collars as they do not have strong enough necks or spines, and could very easily injure themselves with a collar. Rabbits can wear harnesses with leads attached to go outside, the harnesses go around the body as well as the neck, so they do not put too much strain on the neck.
