Fish ponds are small areas of still fresh water, and can be made in all sorts of shapes and sizes to fit the amount of space that you have available. The type, number and size of the fish and other creatures living in your pond depend on its shape and size.
Pond Life
Large ponds and lakes can support large numbers of fish, animals and insects. Garden ponds are usually smaller, and so can support fewer creatures, however even a small pond will be able to support fish, snails, insects as well as visiting birds, frogs, toads and newts and other small animals.
Pond Maintenance
The amount of effort involved in building your pond depend on it's size, location and type. Once built, and stocked with appropriate plants and maybe some fish, your pond will soon start attracting wildlife.
The amount of effort required to maintain your pond is not huge, however you will need to attend to it in all seasons of the year to keep your pond in its best condition and to attract all kinds of wildlife to it.
