It's All About The Cat
Cats As Pets
Cats are independent but loving and affectionate pets. Cats also make very relaxing companions, and are often very very relaxed themselves - cats will sleep anywhere! Although it might seem that a cat takes less looking after than other pets such as dogs, you still need to commit to looking after your cat, and be prepared to spend time with your cat each day. The affection that you get back in return makes it worth it.
Living With a Cat
You will have to provide your cat with a healthy diet, toys to play with, warm dry areas to sleep and access to the outdoors or plenty of room to play and exercise. Owning a cat is less tying for the owner than a owning a dog, as you don't have to plan your time around the regular walks that a dog needs.
Understanding Your Cat
Cats are very intelligent, and can be house trained very easily. Training a cat does not work exactly the same as training a dog because cats are much more independent. Toilet training is easy as cats are naturally clean animals, but getting your cat to do something you tell it to is a little more difficult!
The following pages will give you information on how to feed your cat well with a healthy balanced diet, keep your cat healthy, understand its behaviour as well as a little cat training.
The RSPCA Complete Cat Care Manual is full of all the information you need to look after your cat. Available in our store.
